*Competing in matches and tournaments is not a requirement. Our focus is on the long-term development of our athletes and are 100% supportive of wrestlers who choose to only participate in practices

TCJWL Tournaments & Matches

Jr. Laker wrestling is a member of the Twin County Junior Wrestling League (TCJWL) which is comprised of 50+ teams from Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Morris & Hudson counties. The league is focused on development and pairing wrestlers that are similar in age, size and skill level. Our competiton schedule for TCJWL will be as follows:

Seven (7) Saturday matches starting the first Saturday in January. These Saturday matches will include 3-4 league teams. Wrestlers are paired up based on (1) Age (2) Weight (3) Years of Experience (4) Skill Level. Two of these matches will be "home" matches at MLHS.
Novice Tournament by age group (06U, 08U, 10U, 12U, 14). A "novice" is any wrestler with 1-2 years of experience.
Journeyman Tournament by age group. This is a tournament for any experienced (3+ years) wrestler who does not have criteria from the prior year.
Girls Championship Tournament. A tournament for girl wrestlers which is split by age (elementary & middle school).
District & Region Tournaments. The TCJWL "Post-Season." Wrestlers who place 1st or 2nd in their weight class at Districts, advance to the Region tournament

Non-TCJWL Competition

Jr. Laker wrestlers will also have the option to compete in three non-TCJWL tournaments. We will be sending wrestlers to the Roxbury Rumble, Mt. Olive Invitational & Nutley. All three tournaments have both "Novice" and "Open or Experienced" divisions

Additionally, we are evaluating potentially competing in some matches in the Future Stars league, which is also focused on development, but employs a mock dual meet structure which is different than our Saturday TCJWL matches
